Abstract
1,229,773. Reactors. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. 30 July, 1969 [12 Aug., 1968], No. 38275/69. Heading G6C. In a carbon dioxide gas cooled integral nuclear reactor the core, A, is mounted above the heat exchangers 3, inside the shield 8, within the prestressed concrete pressure vessel 1. The core comprises a tank containing heavy water moderator and having fuel ducts 6. Thermal dimension changes between the core and the shield are accommodated by the annular flexible joint 12. Coolant flow in the space between A and 8 is restricted by the transverse fins 28, 30 mounted on A and 8 respectively. The joint 12, Fig. 3, is formed of rings 14, of plates 14a, 14b which are laterally off-set to limit the gas flow through the joint.
