Abstract

1,186,622. Cooling reactors. NUCLEAR POWER GROUP Ltd. 27 Sept., 1968 [7 Sept., 1967], No. 40953/67. Heading G6C. In a gas-cooled, graphite moderated nuclear reactor, the core A is mounted within the prestressed concrete pressure vessel D, together with the heat exchangers E and the radiation shield F. The lower portion A 1 of the core contains a coolant gas collecting chamber formed of interconnecting passages a. The coolant gas is circulated by pumps K upwards over the exchangers, down both sides of wall F, into the collecting chamber a, upwards through spaces between the graphite blocks to the space R. From R the flow continues downwards through the bores in the graphite housing the nuclear fuel, through passages in A<SP>1</SP> into space S in the support structure B and then into the exchangers.
