Abstract
1,242,900. Oil-blast switches. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA A.B. 24 Dec., 1968 [27 Dec., 1967], No. 61309/68. Heading HlN. A low oil content high voltage circuit breaker which does not re-ignite during oapacitative breaking has each contact pair arranged in a breaking chamber 1, 2, which is only partly filled with oil so that a gas-filled space 14 is formed in the chamber, compressed gas filling the space 14 and being supplied via an insulating conduit 20 and a valve 21 which is open during normal operation but closes on contact breaking when the pressure in space 14 exceeds a certain value. An exhaust valve 22 opens when pressure is above a higher certain value. After a breaking process, when the pressure decreases, valve 21 opens before valve 22 closes. Valve 21 remains closed for a certain period. Spaces 14 in chambers 1, 2 are in communication with one another. The extinguishing chamber 11 is of the differential piston type. Reference is made to the arc generating a flow of liquid in chamber 11. Compressed gas at earth potential is led from a compressor 15, via drying means 16, a storage tank 17 and a reducing valve 18, through a hollow support insulator 6 to the operating mechanism housing 3 and via a plastics conduit 20 to chambers 1, 2. The gas may alternatively be supplied via an external porcelain tube. One compressor 15 may supply a plurality of poles and circuit breakers (not shown) via conduit 19. Chambers 1, 2 communicate via mechanism chamber 3 which is completely filled with oil.
