Abstract
934,085. Oil-break switches. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA A.B. Sept. 28, 1961 [Nov. 8, 1960], No. 34822/61. Class 38 (5). An oil circuit-breaker arc extinguishing chamber includes a nozzle-shaped fixed contact which, at least in the contact open condition allows oil to pass from a compartment of the extinguishing chamber and has a pocket of gas trapped in the compartment and a differential piston through which the moving contact passes. As shown in Fig. 1, the compartment 7, 8 is filled with oil up to a lever controlled by an opening 9 and on separation of contacts 3, 5 the compression of the gas above the oil results in a flow of oil and arc gases through the nozzle control 3 at current zero. The pressure also forces the piston 4 downward to pump pure oil from the space 10 through a slot 11 which is uncovered as the moving contact is withdrawn along a passage 6 in the piston 4. In Fig. 2 (not shown) an insulating wall is provided between the compartment 7, 8 and the piston to ensure axial oil flow and in Fig. 3 this wall 13 is associated with over pressure valves 16 in the differential piston compartment. In Fig. 4 (not shown) there are two walls between the two parts of the chamber which also has outlet openings between the walls.
