Abstract
1,241,716. Knitting. OFFICINE MONCENISIO GIA ANONIMA BAUCHIERO. 23 June, 1969 [5 Sept., 1968; 1 Feb., 1969], No. 31638/69. Headings D1C and D1K. A stocking toe closure is formed on a circular machine by gradual introduction of the full complement of needles during continuous rotary knitting and pulling the leading end of yarn to close the disc thereby formed. When the yarn guide 7 becomes operative the yarn is taken by the first needle past a hook 24 mounted on a slide and initially disposed within the needle circle. The hook is withdrawn against the action of spring 9 by means of a counter-weight in cylinder 36 when its fluid pressure support is removed. The thread is clamped by means 37. The first course 10 is taken by spaced needles, e.g. a, b and further spaced needles f introduced at the second course. A few courses are knitted between each subsequent introduction until knitting is proceeding on the full needle complement. When the closure has been knitted a roller 47 is lowered to engage the yarn held by the hook and tighten the first course. The yarn is seared and the end romoved pneumatically. The closure may itself comprise the shaped toe end of the stocking or be followed by a reciprocatory knit toe-the closure being above or below the foot. The closure may be knitted of different yarn to that of the remainder of the stocking.
