[Also in Division G4] The system described in the parent Specification in which appropriately spaced photo-cells monitor the dimensions of objects on a conveyer in order to control their sorting, is augmented by an additional light source and one or more photo-cells to detect the degree of surface reflectivity. With one cell it is possible to decide whether an object has its correct side upper most, and with several cells, each scanning a portion of the surface of an object, a change in reflectivity over the surface of the object can be used as an indication of a surface imperfection and can control appropriate sorting and counting equipment.
