Abstract
1,207,489. Photo-electric flow detection. NORTH ATLANTIC RESEARCH PRODUCTS Ltd. Nov.29, 1967 [Dec. 6, 1966], No.54646/66. Heading G1A. In a system for detecting flows in the surface of an object, a plurality of photo-cells 8 are arranged to monitor the light from a source 1, reflected by a plurality of zones on the object, and the output from the cells is fed to level detectors 10 to create a system output signal if the light falling on at least one cell falls below a predetermined level. The cells are located at the bottom of a compartmented matrix 7 the top of which is covered with diffusing material located in the plane of focus of a lens 5. The cells form potentiometers with resistors 9 to provide inputs to the level detectors which may be differential amplifiers or Schmitt triggers, and a fall in illumination produces a signal through "or" gate 11 to a memory 16 which is triggered, in the case of a moving object, by a photo-electric position device 13, 14, to operate a reject relay.
