Abstract
1304258 Measuring visibility photo-electrically UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY 4 Oct 1971 [3 July 1970] 32497/70 Heading G1A In an apparatus for providing an indication of visibility along a predetermined path defined by a first light beam 12, a second light beam 15 is arranged to intersect or pass close to the first beam at a region P and the light scattered from the two beams substantially from the region P is detected by at least one photo-cell D. By distinguishing between and comparing the photosignals due to the two light beams the visibility along the path can be determined. To distinguish between the beams either the laser sources 16, 17 are modulated or mechanical shoppers are provided in the beam paths. One or more silicon photo-cells D, each provided with a telescope 13, receive the scattered light.
