Abstract

1,237,527. Strap. THOMAS & BETTS CORP. 25 Nov., 1969 [12 March, 1969], No. 57622/69. Heading E2A. [Also in Division A5] A self-gripping strap for joining two or more articles and especially for use as a suture comprises a elongated flexible strap 12 having a head portion 14 in which there is a transverse aperture 16 to receive the strap 12, and having fastening means to secure the elongated strap in the aperture 16, and a tail portion 22 either integral with or attached to the strap 12 which is substantially rigid and terminates in a cutting edge 24 which may be pointed whereby the tail portion 22 is passed through an article having no aperture to receive the strap. The rigid tail portion 22 may be a metallic member attached to the tail 12, a hardened portion or a metal layered portion. In use the cutting edge 24 cuts apertures in the articles to be joined and is fastened by passing the strap 12 through the transverse aperture 16 and is held in position by the fastening member 18.
