Abstract
1,236,196. Spark gaps; electrode materials. POWER DEVELOPMENT Ltd. 26 Feb., 1970 [29 Jan., 1969], No. 4870/69. Heading H1D. A protective spark gap device comprises opposed conductive members 1 having smoothly shaped opposing projections 4, 5 thereon and an insulating washer 3 interposed between them, the assembly being enclosed in insulating material 2. Discs 1 of copper, nickel-plated copper, or nickel-plated steel each formed with an annular rib 4 of semicircular cross-section and a central projection 5 of part-spherical crosssection are separated by a washer 3 e.g. of mica. Leads 6 are attached by soldering or spot-welding or the discs may be provided with integral projections for connection purposes. The assembly is coated with resin 2 either by dipping or by an encapsulation process. A number of spark gaps connected in series may be embedded in one encapsulation.
