A two-speed gear for a power take-off shaft is located in front of the main change-speed gear and comprises gears 26, 27 fast with an input shaft 12 and meshing gears 14, 13 selectively clutchable to a power take-off shaft 15 by a double dog clutch 20. Interchangeable end pieces 7, 8 are connectible to the power take-off shaft and to the gear shift mechanism; when the end piece 7 is connected to the shaft 15 and the end piece 8 acts on a bell-crank lever 19, the gear 14 is clutched to the power take-off shaft to give the lowest ratio, interchanging the end pieces shifts the lever 19 against spring bias and clutches the gear 13 to the power take-off shaft to give high ratio. As a modification the bell crank lever 19 may incorporate a spring, or the lever 19 may be replaced by two levers connected by a spring to facilitate shifting despite abutment of the clutch teeth.
