Abstract
123,501. Rooney, J. W. Feb. 12, 1918. Projectiles.-Consists of a long-range projectile, comprising an inner shell 2 of smaller calibre than the gun from which the projectile is fired, and an outer casing concentrically fitting and surrounding the shell 2, the outer casing being formed of longitudinal segmental strips 1 hinged to a cylindrical base-plate 3. The strips are adapted to open out during flight by centrifugal action, allowing the inner shell to separate from its casing and to proceed independently.
