Abstract

584,248. Armour-piercing projectiles. WHITE, A. G., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. July 10, 1941, No. 8704. [Classes 9 (i) and 9 (ii)] A high explosive missile such as a bomb, shell, grenade, torpedo and the like adapted tc disrupt armour plate by the action of the explosive while still exterior to the plate, is provided forwardly with a loose collar 4 of heavy material such as lead, disposed coaxially of the missile and adapted to impose confinement of the force of explosion radially of the axis, but to offer no effective confinement forwardly, The body 1 of the missile is formed of thin metal plate and may be hollowed at the front 9 and fitted with a contour cap 8. The collar may be either inside or outside the container and the means 5 whereby the main charge is detonated is disposed behind the collar but may be fired by a detonator or fuze from the front end as long as this arrangement offers no confinement to the explosion forwardly.
