Trimming and spreading apparatus.-A poweroperated grain plough a, for pushing grain in the hold of a ship to the foot of an elevator, is provided with a rearwardly-extending sheet-metal skirt-like foot part b bent so that, when the lower edges of the plough a and plate b rest on the grain, the plough is inclined as shown. The ends of the plough a may be bent forward to form flanges a<1>. The plough is hauled by a rope c attached to the usual ropes d secured to the back plate of the plough. Rods e extend forwards from each of the flanges a<1>, a<1> and are bent to produce vertical parts l which lie alongside each other opposite the middle of the plate. The rods are shaped to produce an opening e<1> to permit the passage of the haulage rope. The rear hauling- rope f is connected to the back of the plough by a ring g<1> and bowlike link g. The skirt b may be perforated to permit the passage of grain. In a modification, the rods e and ropes d are dispensed with and the haulage rope' connected to the plough by chains which are attached to the flanges of the plough by several links shaped to present a curved face to stanchions or props. In another modification a skirt-like part is provided at both the upper and lower ends of the plough so that it may be used either way up. In this form ropes extend from the middle of the plough to a ring to which the main haulage rope is connected. The ring slides on a vertical slide rod supported by rods extending from the flanges of the plough and provided with two kinks in the one or other of which the ring is adapted to en. gage when the plough is being hauled. Strengthening-plates are provided at the back of the plough. The plough, with or without the addition of steel teeth on its lower edge, may be used as a coal plough.
