143,226. Pßlsson, I. May 10, 1920. Trawling-gear; nets.-A device for steering a net in the sea comprises a boom A provided with a wedge-shaped wing B and a T-iron rail C on the opposite side. The net is connected by rings engaging the flanges of the rail C and an eye-bolt at each end. At two points, two steel-wire ropes D<1> and D<2> (D, Fig. 2) pass round, and are firmly connected to the rear side of, the boom. The upper and lower parts of the ropes are connected at E<1> and E<2> respectively by rings and shackles, and the latter by a short chain F fitted with a swivel. When the trawl rope G<1> is tightened more than the trawl rope G<2>, the net moves downward, as shown in Fig. 4, and vice versa, as shown in Fig. 3. The steepness is regulated by the relative pulls on the two ropes and its maximum determined by the width of the wing and length of the chain, which length may be varied by rings being cut out or inserted by means of the shackles. The ropes may be passed over blocks II to increase the leverage, and two or more runners y prevent the wing itself from scouring along the sea bottom.
