A stapler includes a magazine slidably mounted within it, the magazine supporting a front cover 16 which can fit over the front of the stapler frame, this being exposed when the magazine is moved outwardly of the stapler to permit servicing &c. The magazine comprises two U-section tracks 2a, 2b engaging a set of staples A and a U- sectioned pusher 3 which is urged forward by a spring 11 passing over a roller 10. The pusher 3 has lugs 4, 6 which abut stop plates 5, 7 limiting the pushers forward movement. One end of the spring 11 is attached to a catch 12, which has a nose 14 to engage a lip 15 on the rear end of the magazine. A driving blade 17 is reciprocated by the pivoting of a plate 18 projecting through the blade, the plate 18 being pivoted by the action of a rod 40 fixed between two plates 32 which are extensions of a pivoted hand grip 31. The plates 32 are biased by a spring 38 and the hand grip is pivoted at 30 to an arm 24. An anvil 22, rotatable about a pin 23, is fixed to the arm 24, the anvil being provided with slots 27a, 27b for either clinching or spreading the staples, and slots 29a, 29b either of which engage with a leaf-spring 28 to lock the anvil in position. The cover-plate 16 has a hole 20 for receiving the projecting plate 18, and a hole 21 for receiving a guide lug 19.
