Abstract

Jet-wheels; cooling parts; working- fluid supply.-Air and gas admitted to a combustion chamber a through camoperated valves d, e are ignited by a sparking-plug u, and the products are conducted past spring or cam-operated valves n to ports m leading to a turbine rotor g having inclined blades h and exhaust ports i, exhaust conduits j, j<1> being provided in the casing. The chamber a, the blades h, and the ports and passages for the motive fluid are lined or coated with refractory material. A water chamber k separates the shaft bearing from the combustion chamber. The gas, which may be of low calorific value as described in Specification 122,079, [Class 55 (ii), Gas manufacture &c.], is forced into the combustion chamber at ignition pressure or slightly under, the necessary air to support combustion being subsequently forced in, a suitable ratio being 1 part of air to 15 of gas. The plug v is only used for starting. The pipe j<1> may lead to the gas-producer described in Specification 122,079, [Class 55 (ii), Gas manufacture &c.] ; the gases leaving the producer pass through a coil w in the chamber a on their way to the gas holder.
