Abstract
1,228,969. Door operating mechanism. BRITISH AIRCRAFT CORP. Ltd. 4 Aug., 1969 [5 Aug., 1968], No. 37187/68. Heading E2M. An aircraft door which lies flush with the fuselage when closed is mounted on the fuselage by means of a parallel inkage which enables the door to be swung arcuately to a first, partially-open position, and a sliding mechanism which enables the door to be slid from the first position to a second, fully open position. As shown, an aircraft door 14 is mounted on the fuselage (not shown) by means of four parallel arms 16, 18, 20 and 22 hinged at one end to the fuselage and at the other end to C-shaped brackets 26 and 28 connected respectively to an inverted channel-shaped beam 30 and a lower C-shaped beam 42. The upper beam 30 has a stepped portion (40) and is engaged by two concentric rollers 32 and 34 rotating independently on a pivot 36 carried by an arm 38 attached to the door 14, the rollers being of different diameters so that they engage opposite sides of the channel. The lower beam 42 has within it a smaller C-shaped rail 44 sliding on rollers 46, 48, 50, 52 and 54 which engage the beam 42 and also a member 56 rigidly mounted on the door 14 so that the member 56 slides out of the rail 44 at the same speed as the rail 44 slides out of the beam 42 as the door is opened.
