Boxes made from special blanks; lids and covers; tampering with, preventing &c. - The lid of a box is made by fold ing a cardboard blank such as is shown in Fig. 2, the top 15 and the sides being of single thickness while the ends are of double thickness by reason of the parts 162, 172, &c., which become folded on to the outside of the parts 18, 19. The parts at one end are stapled together; those at the other end are secured together by a string 20 passing round buttons 21. Extensions 163, 191, &c. of the sides and ends are turned inwards to form abutments. The body of the box is made from a similar blank, but both of its ends are stapled up; moreover, the parts corresponding to 163, 191, &c. are turned outwards to form flaps. The box is closed by pressing the lid down upon the body, the abutments passing over the flaps and then preventing the lid and body from being separated. To open the box, the string 20 is freed, and the body portion is drawn out from the lid. Fig. 12 represents a cross-section of the closed box, with abutments 163, 173 coacting with flaps 113, 123. According to the Provisional Specification, the construction may be such that the box must be destroyed in order to open it; also one side of the box-lid may be divided into two parts adapted to be secured together by a sealed string &c.
