Abstract

1,218,528. Fluoroalkyl iodide telomers. W. BLOCHL. 2 June, 1969 [3 June, 1968], No. 27756/69. Addition to 1,096,687. Heading C2C. Fluoroalkyl iodide telomers of formula R(CF 2 CF 2 ) n I, in which n is at least one and R is a secondary perfluoropropyl, secondary hydroperfluoropropyl, secondary chloroperfluoropropyl, secondary bromoperfluoropropyl or secondary iodoperfluoropropyl group, the number of carbon atoms in the telomer not exceeding 27, are prepared by vapour phase reaction of tetrafluoroethylene and at least one mole excess of a compound RI at 340-450‹ at atmospheric or subatmospheric pressure with reaction times of 3 seconds to 10 minutes under such conditions that at least part of the taxogen remains unconverted. The process is preferably continuous, with the product being cooled and the lower telomers separated and recycled to the reactor.
