Abstract
Hexafluoropropene is produced by pyrolysing preheated tetrafluoroethylene and/or octafluorocyclobutane vapour admixed with at least 50 mole per cent superheated water vapour at 700-900 DEG C. under adiabatic conditions. Main by-products are tetrafluoroethylene and octafluorocyclobutane (when using respectively the alternative starting material), iso- and 2-octafluorobutenes.
