Abstract

1,214,974. Attaching pronged fasteners. A. J. MINASY. 24 Nov., 1967 [7 Dec., 1966], No 26013/70. Divided out of 1,214,972. Heading A3H. [Also in Divisions B4-B5] A plier-like tool 52 is used to bend over the tip 46 of the shank of a tack 42 and force it into a surrounding button 28. The tack and button form part of a label securing arrangement described in Specification 1,214,972; the tack shank 46 passes through a piece of sheet material 25 and label 24, the label being held in place by a substantially cylindrical button 28 threaded on to the tack shank. An anvil 70 mounted on one jaw 56 of the tool 52 is recessed to accommodate the head 42 of the tack. A second anvil 68 mounted on the opposing jaw 54 is recessed at 72 and 74 (Fig. 4) to accommodate the button 28, a central recess 76 serving to bend over the tack shank 46 and force it into the button 28 when the handles 58 and 60 of the tool 52 are squeezed towards each other. An adjustable spacer 64 limits the minimum approach of the jaws 54 and 56.
