Abstract

1,214,134. Lattice portal frame structure. BRITISH ALUMINIUM CO. Ltd. 11 Jan., 1968 [16 Jan., 1967], No. 2268/67. Heading E1W. A portal frame includes a cross member supported at each end by an upright 1 constructed as a sub-portal frame and comprising a first pair of spaced apart, elongate elements 16 extending upwardly from base means, a second pair of elongate elements 18 extending upwardly from the base and connected to each other at their upper ends and a third pair of elongate elements 17 each of which is connected at one end to a respective one of the first pair of elements 16 to extend out of the plane of the first pair with the elements 17 of the third pair being secured together at their other ends where they are also secured to the connected upper ends of the second pair of elements 18. An elongate element 7a may directly connect the upper ends of the elements 16. The cross member is composed of a lattice girder 2 of triangular cross section, or several such girders 2 connected end to end, each girder having three booms interconnected by struts and stays. Preferably two such girders 2 are arranged as an inverted V. The connecting elements (not shown) joining the girder booms, struts and stays and parts of the sub-portal frames may be of the kind described and claimed in Specification Nos. 769,616, 826,898 or 973,572.
