Spray carburettors; vaporizers, external.-A control device for carburettors comprises means for heating the air supply and the fuel mixture, and means whereby the velocity and temperature of the mixture admitted to the engine vary in inverse manner to the degree of throttle opening or the engine speed. The arrangement comprises a temperature - control element located in a superheating chamber and movable with the throttle valve, so that, when the throttle is wholly or partly closed, the heated mixture traverses the superheating chamber and the control element before passing to the engine. In the form shown, the carburettor comprises three fuel nozzles 32, 33, 34, Venturi tubes 10, 11, 12, and a rotary-disk valve 43, Figs. 2 and 8, which uncovers the tubes 10, 11, 12 in turn. The valve 43 is connected by a stem 46 to the throttle 15. The air supply is heated between a casing 19 and an exhaust chamber 17, which has an annular extension 22 and a partition 21, so that exhaust entering at 16 passes up one half and down the other of the annular passages 22. Within the part 22 is a refractory body 13 with longitudinal passages 23<a>, and around the part 22 is an annular superheating chamber 29, into which depends a tubular control member 14 carried by the throttle 15. When the throttle is closed, mixture from the carburettor passes up through the heated passages 23<a>, under the superheating chamber. 29, and through the control member 14 to the outlet 41. As the throttle 15 is opened, an increasing proportion of the mixture passes direct from the passages 23<a> to the outlet 41 instead of through the superheating chamber.
