Abstract

1,202,645. Return tube steam and hot water boilers; combustion chambers. COCHRAN & CO. ANNAN Ltd. 5 March, 1969 [6 March, 1968], No. 10890/68. Headings F4A and F4B. A furnace tube 12 for a fire tube boiler has a main portion 40 joined by flexible means 46, 52 to a portion 41, 42 of smaller cross-sectional area. The flexible diaphragms 46 and 52 may be formed integrally with the main portion and/ or the smaller cross-sectional area portions 41 and 42. Air is supplied to an oil burner 30 through a passage between the lagging 26 and an outer casing 25, a passage 26A and a passage 28. Smoke tubes 16 extend from the combustion chamber 15 to a tube plate 17 to transfer hot gases to a transfer box 18, smoke tubes 20 and a flue 22. In a further embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown), the furnace tube has similar smaller cross-sectional area portions (63, 64) at opposite ends and the combustion chamber is an integral part of the furnace tube (60).
