Abstract
1,201,045. Retractive switches. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. 2 Nov., 1967, No. 49889/67. Heading H1N. A push-button is a dome-shaped projection 2 on a plate of springy material 1 integral with the dome and fixed in position about the dome, pressure on dome 2 causing a snap action deformation of the dome, the remainder of plate 1 remaining undeformed, the deformed material resuming its original shape with a snap action on release of the pressure. As shown, the domes 2 are the moving contacts for engagement with fixed contacts 4, formed by sprinted circuit, withterminals 6 on an insulating plate 5 separated from plate 1 by insulating spacer 3, the plates being bonded by epoxy resin at their edges, and rivets 7 may be used. The springy material of plate 1 may be nickel silver or in some applications plastics. A non-oxidizing stud 9, Fig. 2 (not shown), may be mounted on the underside of domes 2 when plate 1 is of oxidizing material. To provide a wiping action the fixed contacts may be small pieces of metal 10, Fig. 3 (not shown), mounted by resilient straps 11, Fig. 3, to the conductors 12, Fig. 3, An apertured faceplate may fit over plate 1. In a second embodiment, beneath the plate 1 is a locating plate 16 locating balls 17 of resilient insulating material such as hard rubber which bear on moving contacts on contact springs 13 formed in a metal plate spaced from the printed circuit board 5 and on top of plate 1 is a transparent sheet of flexible insulating material 18 marked with push-button indicia with an apertured face-plate 8 over that. The contacts may be change-over contacts.
