Abstract

1298089 Retractive switches; contacts W B SUDDUTH 30 Jan 1970 [24 Feb 1969 29 Dee 1969] 4539/70 Heading H1N An electric-switch keyboard assembly comprises a sheet 30, Fig. 5, of a flexible, electrically conductive polymeric material engageable with one or more contacts 51, 52, Fig. 4. The material may be an elastomer or such as a conductive silicone or fluoro-silicone filled with finely divided particles of carbon or silver. In the application shown, the sheet 30 is mounted above an apertured insulating plate 40 and has multiple projections 31 for bridging selected decimal coded printed-circuit contact pairs 51, 52 when depressed by selected insulating buttons 32 accessible through apertures 21 in a cover plate 11. In a modification (not shown) the projections 31 may engage binary coded sets of contacts through one or more apertures placed at the required coding positions in a plate (140), Fig. 10 (not shown). Some smaller apertures (207) may also be arranged adjacent to the main apertures whereby contacts under the smaller apertures are engaged after a time delay and act in a "strobe" circuit for indicating that the required coded circuits have been depressed.
