Abstract

1,200,716. Rotary pumps. MESSERSCHMITT-BOLKOW-BLOHM G.m. b. H. Oct.18, 1968 [Oct.23, 1967; Oct.31, 1967; Nov.30, 1967; March 11, 1968], No.49577/68. Heading F1F. A variable delivery, pressure relieved sliding vane pump comprising a rotor having vanes radially displaceable in axially extending rotor slots, wherein the volume of the delivery chamber is increased or decreased by means of displaceable guide members 106, 107, Fig.6, mounted in a frame 3 and having similar overlapping interengaging sliding surfaces with each surface having a semi-circular guide surface 210, Fig.3, which terminates, with regard to the direction of rotor rotation, beyond a pump outlet 230 in an Archimedean spiral 240 to a point 241 where it is joined by a straight line 242 to the adjacent extremity 243 of a plane surface which slides on a complementary overlapping sliding surface of the other guide member. In order to reduce weight guide members may be moulded from plastics material. To reduce running noise and avoid transitional loads, the guide members may include semi-circular milled recesses 109, 110 which terminate adjacent the sliding surfaces 11, 12 and mount strips 127, 131 made, e.g., from spring steel or plastics material. Each strip is anchored at one end to its associated guide member and tapered at its other end to give a smooth transitional surface with the other strip. The guide members may be simultaneously moved by means of pistons acting on control pins and subjected to hydraulic or pneumatic pressure under the control of a single actuating member. The control of the pistons may be effected automatically either as a junction of delivery pressure or driving input. Alternatively, control pins 319, 320, Fig.7, may co-operate with the oblique faces 342 of a twopronged fork 341 which is acted upon by a hydraulic or pneumatic piston or mechanical means
