Abstract

1,200,173. Filling and venting device. ALKALINE BATTERIES Ltd. 9 Oct., 1967 [10 Oct., 1966], No. 45186/66. Heading H1B. A secondary cell has a filling and venting device comprising a cylindrical chamber 10 secured to the top 11 of the cell container and having in its bottom 21 a coaxial inlet opening from the container forming a valve seat 22, a movable lid 12 formed of elastomeric material to snap over the top of the chamber and to be readily removable therefrom and formed integral with a flexible strap and ring 18 which encircles the chamber and attaches the lid to it when the lid is removed, and a substantially spherical valve 30 of slightly smaller diameter than the inside of the chamber and larger diameter than valve seat 22 and secured to a pin 31 passing through a hole 20 in the lid and having a head 32 which is sprung through hole 20, the sizes of pin 31 and hole 20 being such as to provide a vent which is such that valve 30 obscures any direct path from inlet 22 to hole 20.
