Abstract
1,200,159. Antibiotic pleuromutilin compositions. BIOCHEMIE KUNDL G.m.b.H. 15 Aug., 1967, No. 2091/70. Divided out of 1,197,942. Addition to 1,111,009. Heading A5B. A veterinary antibiotic composition comprises as active ingredient a water soluble ester of pleuromutilin or of its hydrogenation product; or a water-soluble salt thereof. The esters and their salts are produced by the process of Specification 1,111,009. The esters are derived from isocyanic acid, an aliphatic monocarboxylic acid having from 3 to 19 carbon atoms, a haloformic or monohaloacetic acid, an aliphatic dicarboxylic acid having from 3 to 14 carbon atoms, a mono-nuclear aromatic dicarboxylic acid or a sulphonic acid. Typical esters are the succinate, glutarate, phthalate and N-carboxymethylcarbamate. Pleuromutilin has the formula and the vinyl group is the group which is hydrogenated. The compositions may be in the form of injections. They are effective against gram positive micro organisms, e.g. staphylococci, dog's acne and distemper.
