Abstract

1,198,675. Nitroalkanoates. AMERICAN HOME PRODUCTS CORP. 21 Sept., 1967 [8 March, 1967], No. 42952/67. Heading C2C. In a process for the preparation of an ester of a 4-nitro-alkanoic of the general formula wherein R is an alkyl group and COOR<SP>1</SP> is an esterified carboxyl group a mixture of an acrylate of the general formula wherein -COOR<SP>1</SP> has the meaning given above and a nitroparaffin of the general formula R-CH 2 NO 2 are contacted with a strongly basic ion-exchange resin having a macroreticular structure. The process may be operated batchwise or continuously using a fixed bed of resin. A solvent such as a lower alkanol may be employed in the process. Examples are furnished.
