Abstract

1,199,734. Continuous winding. WINGET Ltd. 9 Nov., 1967 [11 Nov., 1966], No. 50702/ 66. Heading D1J. A continuous spooling device comprises flange protective means 1 and 2 for preventing the wire W which is being transferred from a rotating full reel 6 to an empty reel 5 contacting the adjacent flanges 3 and 4 and the catching plates 7 and 8 on the flanges. There'is also a means, e.g. air operated lever :10, which forces the wire downwards over and off the protective means 1 and 2 into a position in which it is caught by the catching plates 7 and 8. Preferably means 1 and 2 are curved bars as shown which describe a path having a common axis with the reels. The wire may be caught in plates 7 and 8 when it has reached a position in which it contacts the empty reel barrel. The wire is wound up onto the empty reel after being severed by an associated cutter, the reels may be provided with dummy barrel sections (12, 18) defined by an additional flange (12B, 18B) and barrel mounted on each reel, see Fig. 3 not shown. The wire is initially wound onto the dummy section after having been transferred and severed from the full reel by arrangement similar to that described above. The wire is then transferred from the dummy section over the additional flange (12B or 18B) onto main barrel section (5 or 6). The wire is prevented from contacting the additional flanges by an additional protective means, e.g. curved bars (1A or 2A) and is released from these bars by additional lever 40.
