Abstract

1,199,476. Injection moulding. ROLINXLtd. 19 Sept., 1968 [19 Sept., 1967], No. 42633/67. Heading B5A. Molten thermoplastic material is injected into a mould cavity from a number of spaced injection points, and the air trapped in the cavity 6 between advancing faces 3 of the material as they converge towards each other from the injection points is removed by suction, after which the cavity is sealed. As described, the mould is square and its square cavity is fed from four injection points; a valve 8 is located centrally of the mould and is operated hydraulically to connect the cavity with a vacuum source via passages 14, 15. When closed, the valve is flush with the cavity wall 13. The mould may include vents at its extremities and a vent in the vicinity of the valve.
