1,192,775. Substituted phenoxy-3-chloromalealdehydic acid. EASTMAN KODAK CO. 27 June, 1967 [28 June, 1966], No. 29658/67. Heading C2C. [Also in Divisions C3 and G2] The invention relates to substituted phenoxy 3-chloromalealdehydic acid of the general formula wherein R is a halogen atom or an alkyl, carboxyl, alkoxy, formyl, tertiary amino or sulpho radical and R<SP>1</SP> is a hydrogen or halogen atom or an alkyl, carboxyl, alkoxy, formyl, tertiary amino or sulpho radical. Compounds claimed per se are 2-(p-carboxyphenoxy), 2-(p-methoxyphenoxy)-, 2 - (p - tert - pentylphenoxy)-, 2- (p - octylphenoxy) and 2 - (m - pentadecyl) - 3- chloromalealdehydic acid. The compounds may be prepared by condensing mucochloric acid with a substituted phenol of the general formula
