Abstract
1,191,779. Separating gas mixtures. LIQUID GAS ANLAGEN UNION G.m.b.H. 19 Dec., 1968 [20 Dec., 1967], No. 60515/68. Heading B1L. [Also in Division F4] Removal of residual gas e.g., ammonia from a storage tank 1 is effected by introducing a carrier gas e.g., propane into the tank withdrawing the gaseous mixture so formed by means of a compressor 9 into a scrubber tower 3 where the mixture is contacted with a liquid e.g., water which dissolves the ammonia but not the propane and returning the ammonia-free propane by means of the compressor 9 to the tank 1. In operation the water is supplied by a pump 4, water particles entrained by the ammonia-free propane are separated at 8 after which the propane is heated at 10 prior to compression and the compressed propane is then freed of water vapour by passage through a water cooled condenser 12 or through chemical driers 16 and passed through a line 11 and expansion valve 14 into the tank 1. After complete removal of residual ammonia the tank is charged with propane for storage.
