Abstract
1,182,246. Wet spinning viscose. COURTAULDS Ltd. 28 June, 1967 [29 June, 1966], No. 29176/66. Heading B5B. Regenerated cellulose filaments characterized by having a thick skin, a smooth surface and a high tensile strength suitable for making up industrial yarns are made by wet spinning viscose containing 0À2 to 4% by weight (based on the cellulose in the viscose) of a watersoluble ethoxylated amine having the general formula wherein R is alkyl and contains 6 to 18 carbon atoms and R<SP>1</SP> is alkyl containing up to 4 carbon atoms, or a polyethylene oxide radical (CH 2 CH 2 O)eH, x and y being integers, the viscose being extruded into a coagulating bath at a temperature of at least 50‹ C. and containing sulphuric acid, sodium sulphate and at least 3% zinc sulphate to form filaments, and stretching the filaments by at least 60% of their original length. The PRESUME COPY MISSING HERE in an aqueous bath at a temperature of at least 85‹ C. and containing at least 1% by weight of sulphuric acid. The preferred ethoxylated amine incorporated in the viscose is a dodecylbenzylamine/polyethylene oxide adduct containing from 12 to 25 moles of ethylene oxide per benzylamine residue. A polyethylene oxide modifier such as a polyethylene glycol is preferably also incorporated in the viscose.
