Abstract

The Main Patent protects the roving or precursor yarn consisting of a sliver of staple fibres and at least one filament yarn overwrapping the staple fibres. This roving or precursor yarn is further improved by the filament yarns consisting of crosslinked polyesters. The filament yarns are advantageously monofilaments, especially composed of polyethylene terephthalate, which contains 0.03 to 1.5% by weight, based on the pure polyethylene terephthalate, of a crosslinker. Particularly suitable filament yarns are those polyesters which have been obtained using esters and/or salts of compounds of the formula <IMAGE> in which x </= 1.5 or else is 0, where the ester groups represent the radicals of lower aliphatic alcohols with 1 to 4 carbon atoms and the salts groups represent the ions of alkali metals.
