Abstract
1,025,692. Regenerated cellulose filaments. TOHO RAYON KABUSHIKI KAISHA. Sept. 25, 1962 [Oct. 28, 1961], No. 36374/62. Heading B5B. Viscose containing (a) from 0À03 to 0À1% by weight of a polyethylene glycol of molecular weight 300-10,000 and (b) from 0À03 to 0À1% by weight of an N-dipolyoxyethylene substituted alkylamine of formula where R is an aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon radical having 4 to 12 carbon atoms, and x and y are integers, the total of which lies within the range of 2 to 15 is spun into an aqueous coagulating bath held at 40-70‹ C. and containing sulphuric acid, 200 to 350 g./l. of anhydrous sodium sulphate, and at least 30 g./l. of anhydrous zinc sulphate. The additives may be added simultaneously or separately in either order at any step in the preparation of the viscose, or to the prepared viscose. Preferably, the viscose has been prepared from a pulp containing 4 to 10% by weight cellulose and 4 to 8% by weight alkali, and has been exanthated with 30 to 40% by weight of carbon disulphide based on the cellulose content. Filaments so obtained may be stretched, e.g. 50 to 100% in a second acid bath at a temperature above 60‹ C. and purified in known manner. Such filaments are of high tenacity, have an all-skin structure, a kidney bean-shaped crosssection and a smooth, non-crenulated surface. Substantially no microvoids are present and the filaments have good dyeing properties as do acetylated fibres made from the filaments in known manner.
