Abstract
1,180,354. Control of A.C. motors. DANFOSS A.S. 30 Sept., 1968 [7 Oct., 1967], No. 46296/68. Heading H2J. [Also in Division H1N. A curie point magnetic switch 7 in a motor starting circuit has a resistor 6 in series with its contacts 8 and a positive temperature coefficient resistor 12 in parallel with the contacts 8 and resistor 6. To start the single phase a synchronous motor a main switch 3 is closed so that the mains voltage from terminals 1, 2 is applied to the main motor winding 4 and to a starting winding 5 in series with the contacts 8 and resistor 6 with their parallel PTC resistor 12. The latter heats a ferrite plate 11 to its curie point is that the bias of a contact spring 9 carrying a permanent magnet 10 is sufficient to open the contacts 8. The starting current drops to a low value which is mainly determined by the resistance of the resistor 12, but which is sufficient to heat the resistor 12 and maintain yoke 11 at a temperature above its curie paint so that the permanent magnet 10 is not re-attracted.
