Abstract
1,175,417. Curing fluorine-containing elastomers. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP. 12 Jan., 1968 [3 Feb., 1967], No. 5351/67. Heading C3P. Cured fluorocarbon elastomers are prepared by compounding a fluorocarbon elastomer with a compatible plasticizer which is a fluorinated polyalkylene having sulphur pentafluoride side drains or end groups or both, or a glycol and a curing agent which is an aliphatic tetramine of the formula in which R represents a divalent aliphatic group which may be the same or different throughout the formula, and curing the resulting compounded elastomer. The term " fluorocarbon elastomer " means polymers of fluorinesubstituted ethylenically unsaturated hydrocarbons having elastomeric properties, e.g. copolymers of vinylidene fluoride and one or more halogenated olefins, e.g. hexafluoropropylene, pentafluoropropylene, tetrafluoroethylene, and chlorotrifluoroethylene. Suitable plasticizers are a sulphurpentafluorochloride tetrafluoroethylene tolomer, e.g. 1-sulphurpentafluoro - 6 - chloro - perfluoro - n - hexane and neopentyl glycol. The preferred curing agent is triethylene tetramine.
