Abstract

1352138 Cross-linking vinylidene fluoride copolymers DUNLOP HOLDINGS Ltd 4 June 1971 [10 June 1970] 28109/70 Heading C3P A cross-linked polymer is prepared by reacting a mono-urea or a mono-thiourea and a copolymer having fluorocarbon groups which are susceptible to nucleophilic attack by the mono-urea or mono-thiourea, the copolymer comprising vinylidene fluoride units and units of a perfluoro aliphatic olefine. In the examples copolymers of vinylidene fluoride, hexafluoropropene, 2,3,4,5,6 - pentafluorostyrene and tetrafluoroethylene are cross-linked with thiourea, N,N<SP>1</SP> - dicyclohexylthiourea, trimethylthiourea, N,N<SP>1</SP> - ditertiarybutylthiourea, methylthiourea, isopropy thiourea, N,N- dimethylthiourea, urea, methylurea, N,N- dimethylurea and N,N<SP>1</SP> - diphenylurea in the presence of MgO, CaO, PbO and ZnO (in conjunction with dibasic lead phosphite) as activators, N,N - dicinnamylidene - 1,6 - hexanediamine and N,N<SP>1</SP>-tetramethyl-N<SP>11</SP>-lauryl guanidine as additional curing agents and carbon black.
