Abstract

1,171,310. Making cans; forging; stamping. STOLLE CORP. 27 Dec., 1967 [13 Jan., 1967], No. 58681/67, Headings B3A, B3H and B3Q. [Also in Division B8] A tear-top can with integral top 11 and wall 10 is provided with a pouring lip 13a which extends around the whole or part of the periphery of the top by impact extruding a blank to form a cup with excess metal 13 at the junction between the top and the wall and thereafter deforming the excess metal radially to form the lip. A ram 14 forces the cup through one or more ironing dies 15 against a die 16. A coining punch 17 deforms the excess metal. The punch 17 also acts as a pneumatically operated stripper after the deformation. The excess metal may be an annular ridge (23), Fig. 7 (not shown).
