Abstract
1,146,721. Making loud-speakers, stamping. A. L. COEN. 4 July, 1966 [20 July, 1965], No. 30009/66. Headings B3A and B3Q. [Also in Division H4] A method of making a magnet housing for a transducer having a necked formation with a lip which surrounds an opening in one end of the body, comprises the steps of forming an open ended cup whose opening is of substantially the same diameter as its internal diameter, forming a neck to reduce the diameter of the opening and sizing the body and forming the lip. A disc or workpiece 71 is cut from a strip of metal by a die member 58, leaving edge portions 56, and is shaped by the member and punch 66. In the next step the workpiece is shaped to a smaller diameter and has a flat bottom. The workpiece is transferred to a press 92 and the open end is reduced in diameter by a lower die 96 having a tapered annular entrance 99 cooperating with an upper die 93 and a mandrel 102, Fig. 5. The final sizing is performed in a press 120, wherein a ring 127 coins a shoulder 24 on the housing and an upper die 122 froms the radius 136. The ring 127 may then be replaced by a die member 140 which forms a narrow lip 146 and further coins the shoulder 24. In a further embodiment, the bottom of the housing may be formed with a recess to receive the magnet of a loud-speaker, Fig. 11, (not shown). The methed may be performed progressively in a single press with several dies set up on a rotating table.
