116,817. Fairweather, W., (Singer Manufacturing Co.). Sept. 22, 1917. Button-attaching machines. -Relates to buttonattaching sewing-machines and is described as applied to sewing-machines of the type having a jogging work-clamp comprising a lower plate 7, and an upper plate 12 supported thereon and pressed towards it by a spring. The button-clamp consists of two arms 19, 15 rigidly and pivotally secured to a carrier 13, which is adjustable in a slot in the plate 12 by a screw 22. The arm 15 is pressed towards the other by a spring 24 surrounding a stud 25 and is provided with a stop 28 and lifting arm 29. The plate 12 with the button-holder is lifted by a pin on the presser-bar 3 engaging an aperture in a plate 46. The treadleactuated lifting-lever 41 is connected by a rod 39 and bell-crank-lever 36 to the rear end of a lever 33 which is pivoted on the lower arm of the jogging work-clamp and carries at its forward end the work-supporting block 80, so that the latter is swung laterally when the button-clamp is raised to provide space for the easy removal and insertion of the work.
