Abstract

1,160,081. Electric storage heaters. MULTITHERM Ltd. 7 Nov., 1966 [7 Aug., 1965], No. 33914/65. Heading F4U. An electric thermal storage heater shown in plan view comprises at least two stacks A, B, C which are spaced apart to provide air flow passages therebetween and are each composed of at least two blocks of heat storing material, the adjacent blocks of at least one stack being provided on the side facing the air flow passage with recesses 34b which co-operate to define a cavity for the reception of an electric heating element 35. As shown stacks A and C are each provided with a cavity and heating element. The stacks are surrounded by blocks 37, 38, 39, 40 of heat insulating material, e.g. calcium silicate, and blocks 37, 38, 39 are surrounded by a sheet of corrugated aluminium 46 and further blocks of rock wool insulation 45. Block 40 is also provided with rock wool insulation 45 which is covered by a metal plate 41 which supports heating element 35. The stacks A, B, C are held in position in a frame having vertical members 23, 28, 29 and horizontal members (Figs. 2 and 3, not shown). members 28, 29 close the sides of the vertical air passages formed between the stacks. The base of the heater includes a blower, a thermostatically operated by-pass valve and inlet and outlet ducts for ambient air (Figs. 2 and 3, not shown).
