Abstract
1,154,027. Laminates. W. L. GORE & ASSOCIATES Inc. 7 June, 1966 [8 Oct., 1965], No. 25336/66. Heading B5N. [Also in Division H1] In a method of enclosing an electrically conductive article between a pair of insulated webs one of the webs is pregrooved to more precisely locate the article. In the manufacture of a ribbon cable described nip rolls 3 and 10 press unsintered polyethylene webs 4 and 11 about the conductors 5 to form a cable which is then sintered. A roller 2 co-operates with the roller 3 to pregroove the web 4. The webs may alternatively be of thermoplastic material e.g. F.E.P. in which case webs 22 of P.T.F.E. may also be passed between the rollers to prevent sticking. These latter webs may be in closed loop form as shown or may be fed from supply rolls and stripped from the completed cable after cooling. Various other plastics suitable for making the webs are listed. The tapes may be laminates such as polyethylene/polyethyleneterephthalate films and may be of different colours.
