Abstract
1,169,693. Laminated mica paper. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. 23 Nov., 1966 [25 Aug., 1965], No. 36532/65. Heading B5N. [Also in Division H1] An electrically insulating material comprises at least one layer of mica paper bonded to a sheet or tape of backing material with a resin bonding agent wherein not more than 5% of the mica platelets are greater than 2 sq. mm. in area, at least 20% are greater than 0À1 sq. mm. in area and at least 95% are greater than 0À01 sq. mm. in area. Preferably 20-50% of the mica platelets are between 0À1 and 2 sq. mm. in area, the backing material is glass cloth, silk, a synthetic fibre fabric or a mixture thereof and the resin is an epoxy resin. The material may comprise a plurality of layers of mica paper bonded between two layers of backing material, optionally with an intermediate layer of backing material. The material may be formed by impregnating the backing material with resin and bonding it to the mica paper sheet for example between heated rollers.
