Abstract
978,421. Cutting-apparatus. N.O.T. LOOF. July 19, 1961, No. 26119/61. Heading B4B. [Also in Division B6] A thermoplastic tape 10 manufactured by extrusion is fed intermittently by rollers 11, 12, 13, 14 beneath embossing dies 6 carried on a marking unit 3 having electrical heating means 5 and mounted on a vertically movable slide 2. The unit 3 also carries reels 8, 9 for a carbon ribbon 7. The slide is reciprocated vertically through a pivoted lever 15 by a cam 18, the slide being in its upper position when the tape is being fed and being held in its lower position, in which the dies are pressed into the tape through the ribbon, during 50 degrees of rotation of the cam-shaft 20. The roller 11 is shaped like a rotatable knife with two or more axially-spaced edges for cutting the tape into ribbons held together by material left by recesses 11a in the edges. Also mounted on the slide is a unit 4 carrying transverse knives 4a to cut partly into the tape, which can thus be divided into small units for use as marking signs for electric terminals and the like.
