Abstract

1426363 Cutting plastics sheet P A PELET [trading as PST CO] 14 May 1973 [19 May 1972] 22790/73 Heading B5A [Also in Division G5] An apparatus for cutting one or more characters from a strip 47 of thermoplastics material comprises a die 14 slideably received by a heated platen 62 which can be raised and lowered by a lever/cam mechanism 110 to cut the letters from the strip supported by a resilient platen 37, and a cooling station 150 to slidably receive the die after cutting. In operation, the material 47 is fed from a roll 42 into the apparatus. The die 14 is fed in by rotating a knob 98 and driving rollers connected to gears 90a. The die is allowed to heat. The platen 62 is lowered to cut the character, and then raised. The die is passed to the cooling station by rotating knobs 98 and 168 the latter driving rollers 162. Subsequently a further character die 14 is inserted into the apparatus, and the material 47 is moved to its correct positional relationship with the aid of a scale 43, and spacing numbers 176 on the dies which can be seen through mirrors 188, 190. A template 198 may also be used.
