Abstract

1,151,418. Cartridge-actuated tools. STAR EXPANSION INDUSTRIES CORP. 21 March 1967 [5 April, 1966], No. 13141/67. Heading B4C. A cartridge-actuated tool for driving fasteners comprises a barrel 20 having a muzzle end adapted to be pressed against a working surface in order to cock the firing mechanism and a safety device formed by a sleeve 124 which is slidable on the barrel and arranged to be limited in its rearward movement by abutment with the housing. The sleeve 124 is mounted on the muzzle end of the barrel and normally urged by a spring 112 against a flange 116 on the muzzle. In normal use, the muzzle is pressed against a working surface as shown in order to cock the tool. If, however, the muzzle is not pressed against a working surface and the sleeve gripped by hand it is merely moved relatively to the barrel without cocking the firing mechanism.
